Uttar Pradesh overcame a stiff challenge from Chandigarh in the men’s kabaddi final at the 38th National Games to clinch the gold medal at the Yogasthali Khel Parisar, Roshnabad Stadium in Haridwar on Sunday, February 2.
Led by their captain Arjun Deshwal, Uttar Pradesh rode on an all-round team performance to defeat Chandigarh 57-43 to win their second gold medal in three years at the National Games.
Earlier in the first half, Uttar Pradesh were trailing 12-18 before they bounced back in an emphatic fashion to take a 25-22 lead.
Featuring a formidable squad with the likes of captain Arjun Deshwal, raider Vinay, right corner Sahul Kumar, all-rounder Nitin Panwar and talented Mohd Amaan, Uttar Pradesh continued to accumulate points over the Pawan Sehrawat-led Chandigarh in the second half of the men’s kabaddi final.
Despite valiant efforts from Vishal Bharadwaj, Gaurav Khatri, Vishal Chahal and Pawan Sehrawat, Chandigarh lost to Uttar Pradesh 43-57 to finish with the silver medal.
Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh secured the gold medal in the women’s kabaddi event after beating Haryana 27-22 in the final to clinch their third consecutive title.
