Coming on as a substitute, Simran Namta not only scored eight tackle points to record a starring High 5, but she also managed to bag five raid points to cap an all-round show in Himachal Pradesh's dominant win over Pondicherry on the opening day of the women's category of the 67th Senior National Kabaddi Championship on Monday.
At the Poornima University in Jaipur, Himachal Pradesh registered a crushing 60-point victory over Pondicherry while Indian Railways sealed a 1-point win against Maharashtra to showcase the contrasting fortunes.
As many as six High 5s were recorded on the day and only a solitary Super 10, Sakshi Kumar doing the honours for Haryana.
Here's a summary of the results from the first day of the women's category of the 67th Senior National Kabaddi Championship:
Rajasthan vs Karnataka
Kiran Yadav's 6-point High 5 and Renu's 11-point effort helped Rajasthan score 49 points which Karnataka had little answer for. While Nisarga N bagged her own High 5, it constituted nearly half of her team's side as Karnataka managed only 12 points in all and were beaten by a comprehensive 37-point margin.
Delhi vs Madhya Pradesh
All of Delhi's starting seven scored at least a point as they downed Madhya Pradesh 33-15 with an all-round team effort. Ritu's 11 points and Punita's 4 tackle points were the best performers of the match, both hailing from the winning Delhi side.
Punjab vs Kerala C Direction
Amandeep Kaur's High 5 comprised 7 tackle points and Ritu added another 4 tackle points to the tally for Punjab while Kerala C Direction had their own High 5 in the midst. Punjab and Kerala C Direction were nearly on par in defence with 14 points for the former against the latter's 12 but a concerted effort in the raiding department (11 vs 7) meant Punjab beat Kerala C Direction 30-20 in the match.
Indian Railways vs Maharashtra
In the closest match of the day, Indian Railways beat Maharashtra by one point with scores of 33-32. With scores level six minutes from the end, Pavel Chowdhury's successful raid ensured Indian Railways got the lead five minutes before the match ended. Helvi Sonali was the top-scorer of the match with 12 points but it wasn’t enough as Indian Railways' line-up put on a joint-effort to seal the match.
Haryana vs Gujarat
As many as three players managed to score more than 10 points for Haryana in their 54-23 victory over Gujarat. While Priyanka scored 12 and Muskan Malik 11, Sakshi Kumar recorded a Super 10. For Gujarat, only one player starred by scoring 10 points as the team couldn't withstand the Haryana women's assault.
Himachal Pradesh vs Pondicherry
Himachal Pradesh put on the most dominant show of the day with a 70-10 win over Pondicherry. Substitute Simran Namta scored 13 points, which included an eight-point High 5. Kavita too scored a High 5 while Jyoti managed 10 for the winning side as they sealed the match by a mammoth 60 points.
