Mohammadreza Chiyaneh’s majestic performance powers Patna Pirates past Gujarat Giants

A sensational display from Left Corner Mohammadreza Chiyaneh and a Super 10 from Guman Singh helped Patna Pirates beat Gujarat Giants 43-23. The Iranian scored eight tackle points and became the fourth defender to go past the 50-point mark this season. With this win, the Pirates leapfrogged the Bengaluru Bulls into second place on the points table.

The Giants were in the ascendancy early, courtesy of a Super Raid from Rajput. Pardeep added another touch point to Gujarat’s total before Rajput struck again and sent Guman Singh to the bench to reduce the Pirates to two players on the mat. The Giants made their momentum count and inflicted an All Out on the Pirates to take a six-point lead.

Mohammadreza’s sensational Dash on Mahendra kickstarted a 6-0 run for Patna that saw them reduce Gujarat to a solitary man on the mat. The Pirates’ defence sat back and allowed Hadi Oshtorak the opportunity to pick the bonus before swarming him and stopping him in his tracks to inflict an All Out and level the scores at 14-14.

The Pirates finished the half stronger and outscored the Giants 3-1 in the final two minutes of the half to go into the break leading by three points.

Sachin and Mohammadreza added two more points to the Pirates’ total early in the second half to reduce the Giants to just three players on the mat. Guman Singh tagged all three before diving past the midline for a Super Raid that saw the Pirates extend their lead to nine points.

Mohammadreza completed his High 5 with an Ankle Hold on Ajay before Sunil added two more tackle points to his team’s tally as Patna continued to pile the points on the scoreboard. A four-point Super Raid from Sachin reduced the Giants to just two players on the mat, and just two raid attempts later, the Pirates inflicted another All Out to extend their lead to 18.

Patna outscored Gujarat 4-2 in the game’s final five minutes to register a comfortable 20-point win.
