The kabaddi event at the Khelo India University Games 2022 witnessed Kurukshetra University, Haryana (women), and Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo (men), winning gold medals in their respective categories. The matches took place at the SVSP Sports Complex Indoor Hall in Gautam Buddha Nagar from 23rd to 27th May.
Pooja, who was the breakout star for the gold-winning Haryana team in the 69th Senior National Women's Kabaddi Championship, represented Kurukshetra University. On the other hand, Pushpa Rana from Himachal Pradesh led the offence for Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. Both teams appeared strong heading into the women's final, and Kurukshetra University secured their second consecutive gold medal at the kabaddi event with a 32-30 victory.
The men's division featured several stars from vivo Pro Kabaddi, such as Rinku (U Mumba), Manjeet (Dabang Delhi K.C.), Sumit (U.P. Yoddhas), and Himanshu Yadav (Tamil Thalaivas), who represented Guru Kashi University. They convincingly defeated Chandigarh University, Punjab, with a score of 44-36, claiming the top honours.
In the semi-finals, Guru Kashi University secured a 1-point victory over SRM University (33-32) in the men's division. Meanwhile, Kurukshetra University demonstrated its dominance over The University of Burdwan with a commanding 50-27 victory. The 5-day kabaddi action saw various emerging kabaddi players from different regions showcasing their skills on the mat and making a name for themselves with their stunning performances.
