The highly anticipated Season 11 of Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) is all set to get underway on Friday, October 18 at the GMC Balayogi Sports Complex in Hyderabad.
Home side Telugu Titans will feature in the season opener against former champions Bengaluru Bulls and they will be followed by a clash between Dabang Delhi K.C. and U Mumba in what will be the second game of the opening day in PKL 11.
The 11th edition of Pro Kabaddi will see the league return to its three-city format. The first leg of Season 11 will begin in Hyderabad from October 18 to November 9 and will then be followed by the second leg of PKL 11 at the Noida Indoor Stadium, starting from November 10.
The league stages’ final leg will take place at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune from December 3 to December 24. The final dates and venue for the PKL Season 11 playoffs will be officially announced by the league at a later date.
All matchdays during the league phase will be double-headers with the first game starting at 8:00 PM IST followed by the second at 9:00 PM IST. A total of 137 matches, including the playoffs, will be staged across almost three months in Pro Kabaddi League Season 11.
All 12 teams will fancy their chances of getting their hands on the trophy after carefully building strong squads with the help of a few smart retentions and astute purchases at the Season 11 Player Auction, which took place in mid August.
The opening day of PKL 11 will feature three former champion teams in action. While a revamped Telugu Titans team will face an attack-heavy Bengaluru Bulls in the league’s curtain raiser, a defensively resolute U Mumba will face the rampant raiders of Dabang Delhi K.C. in the opening day’s last game.
Day 2 of PKL 11 also has a couple of exciting matches on offer with another southern derby between Telugu Titans and Tamil Thalaivas team, who have kept a hold of their core players, kickstarting the action on Saturday.
The second match on Day 2 is an even more enticing encounter in what will be a repeat of last season's final between Puneri Paltan and Haryana Steelers.
While Puneri Paltan head into the new campaign with the aim of becoming only the second team in history to successfully defend the PKL crown, Haryana Steelers will hope to go one better and clinch the PKL title in Season 11.
The action on Day 3 and the final day of the first weekend of PKL 11 offers up more high-octane faceoffs. Two newly appointed captains will take to the mat for the first game of the evening when two-time champions Jaipur Pink Panthers face Bengal Warriorz.
Bengal Warriorz have a new head coach for Season 11 and with Iranian Fazel Atrachali entrusted to lead the team in the upcoming campaign, one can expect them to give a tough fight to a Jaipur Pink Panthers team that’s blessed with great squad depth.
The last match of the opening weekend of PKL 11 will pit a strong Gujarat Giants team against Bengaluru Bulls.
Meanwhile, the likes of UP Yoddhas and Patna Pirates will play their opening game of the season on Day 4. A defence-heavy UP Yodhhas side will face Dabang Delhi K.C., while a revitalised Patna Pirates team will take on Puneri Paltan.
