Super 10s from Mohit Goyat and Aslam Inamdar saw Puneri Paltan register a 51-31 win over the Telugu Titans. With this win, Pune climbed to seventh on the points table and sit only a point behind sixth-placed U Mumba.
Inamdar gave the Paltan a perfect start with a Super Raid that saw his side build an early lead. Another touch point from Inamdar and two from Goyat helped Pune extend their lead to five points and reduce the Titans to just three players on the mat.
Two Super Tackles from the Titans’ defence temporarily relieved the pressure, but two more touch points from Goyat left Telugu with a solitary man on the mat. Galla Raju, the Titans’ lone man, went in to raid and managed to pick up the bonus before being pinned down by the Paltan defence, which saw them inflict the game’s first All Out and take a 17-11 lead.
Pune continued to pile the points on the scoreboard, as they embarked on a 5-2 run to reduce the Titans to just two men on the mat. But Telugu managed to finish the half on a positive note, as they Super Tackled Goyat to go into the break trailing by seven.
Two unanswered points at the start of the second half left the Titans with only Rakesh Gowda on the mat. The raider managed to pick up a bonus and touch point and in the subsequent raid, the Titans’ defence Super Tackled Inamdar to cut the deficit to five points.
But the Paltan put a stop to the Titans’ attempt at a comeback with a touch point from Goyat and a tackle point from Sombir, which inflicted an All Out on Telugu. A 7-2 run from the Paltan post the All Out saw the Titans’ deficit balloon to 15 points, ending their hopes of winning the contest.
Goyat added two more points to his tally and reduced the Titans to a solitary man, who was left immobile in the subsequent raid, courtesy of a brilliant tackle from Vishal Bhardwaj, which inflicted another All Out on Telugu.
Titans’ Ankit Beniwal and Paltan’s Sombir added a few points to their tally in the final minutes as the game chugged along to an uneventful conclusion. Bhardwaj picked up a tackle point in the 40th minute to join teammate Sombir in scoring a High 5, as the Paltan cruised to a 20-point win.
